Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to provide a historical context for the present day choice of exchange rate policy adopted by the Indonesian government. The chapter also reviews the exchange rate policy before and after the 1997 financial crisis. This is important in order to understand the exchange rate issues currently faced by many developing countries in a bigger picture.
