Teilbericht 1: Räumliche Charakteristika des demographischen Wandels – Bevölkerung und Erwerbspotential

Abstract

Als Grundlage der Untersuchung der ökonomischen Effekte des demographischen Wandels auf regionaler Ebene analysiert der vorliegende Teilbericht die räumlichen Charakteristika dieses Wandels und identifiziert die dabei wirkenden Einflussfaktoren. Demnach wirken der Anstieg der Lebenserwartung, die Abnahme der Fertilität und die Zunahme der Migration massiv, aber regional sehr differenziert auf Dynamik und Struktur der Bevölkerung ein. Das Erwerbspotential wird bis 2030 in allen Bundesländern außer Wien schrumpfen, im Süden und Südosten überdurchschnittlich. Auf kleinräumiger Ebene differenzieren sich "Gewinner" und "Verlierer" der demographischen Entwicklung zunehmend aus. Insgesamt ist die demographische Herausforderung real, in ihrer Größenordnung aber beherrschbar, sofern konsequente Maßnahmen zur Abfederung allfälliger negativer ökonomischer Folgen ergriffen werden.
