The actual dissertation broadens the already existing literature of film subsidization by asking if single institutions reach their self affixed goals, if there are existing differences in achievement of objectives and if single methods of direct film funding are more effective than others. A movies economic and cultural success is approached by different types of success measures, e. g. admission numbers, and admission numbers per film copy, a positive appraisal of the “Filmbewertungsstelle Wiesbaden” and a nomination or winning of the “Deutsche Filmpreis”. Therewith the discussed topic differs significant from the available literature, which focuses on basically judging the sense of a durable subsidization of German movies. For the first time an econometric control of the cultural success of German movies has been focused. For answering the interrogation, a comprehensive record of data of all films premiered between 1995 and 2004 was compiled and analysed via different specific econometric operations.
