El Ajuste Estructural y los Campesinos

Abstract

Este libro representa una perspectiva en el debate sobre el ajuste: el de la sociedad campesina. No es una sorpresa que el ajuste haya afectado a los hogares de los campesinos más pobres relativamente menos que a las familias urbanas marginales y a las clases medias, las que dramáticamente se han empobrecido. Los campesinos marginales no depende enteramente del mercado para su sustento, o de los servicios de educación, salud, créditos que ofrece el Estado, y a los que antes tenían relativamente poco, o ningún acceso. El documento argumenta que sin una activa política de desarrollo en los Andes que fortalezca las capacidades de los más pobres, y la integración de las economías locales Andinas en la economía nacional, la zona seguirá siendo un lugar de pobreza, marginación y violencia.
