Österreichs Banken. Zu klein für Europa?

Abstract

Die Vision eines EG-Binnenmarktes 1992 bringt auch im Bankenbereich erhebliche Anpassungserfordernisse mit sich. In Österreich konzentriert sich die Diskussion vor allem auf die Frage der wettbewerbsfähigen Bankengröße. Österreichs Banken sind im internationalen Vergleich klein. Allerdings bringt Größe für Banken nicht automatisch Kosten- und Effizienzvorteile. Lediglich bis zu einer – relativ geringen – Mindestbetriebsgröße kann mit globalen Kostenvorteilen großer gegenüber kleinen Banken gerechnet werden.
