Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the intensity of the agricultural modernization for the municipalities of the Brazilian Midwest through the construction of an Agricultural Modernization Index – AMI. For this purpose, statistical techniques of multivariate analysis were used. The data used are from the 2006 Agricultural Census. Among the results, it was found that, although the average AMI for the Midwest has not been low, more than half of the municipalities were allocated to the class of the lower level of agricultural modernization, showing that this process has not yet reached all municipalities of the region in a homogeneous way.
