Abstract

The strategic importance of airports in the economic development of any country is well recognised. However, the literature is deficient as far as the operational efficiency of Indian airports is concerned. This paper attempts to examine the efficiency of 46 Indian airports between 2012 and 2014 using the BCC model and the Malmquist productivity index methods of DEA technique. The results indicate that international airports and those lying in the southern region of India are performing efficiently. It is also found that the airports managed through joint ventures are more efficient than others.
