    Abstract

ABSTRACT In this article we make a contribution to debates about the financing of the “Comunidades Autónomas” (Regional Communities) in Spain from the perspective of ecological economics. We point out the posibility of financing based on sustainability criteria, using “Payments for Environmental Services” as an economic instrument. We analyze the material flows for Andalusia in the Spanish and global contexts. We focus on the ecological relationships among several regions as well as on the logic behind some asymmetries in the national income accounts.
