Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes the process of agricultural development in the West Coast of Almería observed since 1960. In this county of Andalusia has happened socio-economic changes which diverge of the patters of modernization theories, because the complex intensive agriculture was practiced by unlettered peasant families with few resources. The development initiated by farmers, which came from poor and underdeveloped regions like the Alpujarra, resulted in an important population change. Thus, since 1990, Almería becomes in an emergent economic area of immigrants.
