Abstract

ABSTRACT The regional participation in the EU R&D Framework Programmes is analyzed, both at an agregate and at sectoral level. We aim at obtaining a descriptive panel of the evolution of the participation of UE-12 regions in the research pojects supported by the European Technological Policy during the period 1987-97 and its incidence on the regional cohesion. Some of the main factors explaining the uneven regional participation are identified. We conclude that European Technological Policy has not contributed to the reduction of the disparities in technological capacity and economic development of the European regions.
