Inversion extranjera directa y productividad laboral en la industria manufacturera regional

Abstract

Objetivo: Analizar los efectos de la inversion extranjera directa sobre la productividad laboral en el sector manufacturero en Mexico durante el periodo 2007-2015. Metodologia: Se estiman diferentes especificaciones econometricas empleando distintas medidas de productividad laboral por medio del metodo generalizado de momentos, el cual permite considerar posibles problemas de endogeneidad. Resultados: Se identifica un efecto positivo y estadisticamente significativo de la inversion extranjera directa como proporcion del PIB manufacturero sobre la tasa de crecimiento de la productividad laboral estimada a partir del indice de productividad laboral de las manufacturas. Limitaciones: Las estimaciones no consideran la dimension geografica espacial entre entidades federativas. Originalidad: Estudios previos en Mexico no utilizan una medida de productividad basada en la produccion total ni controlan por posibles sesgos generados por variables omitidas. Conclusiones: La evidencia sugiere que la inversion extranjera directa puede contribuir al desarrollo economico de las entidades federativas al generar aumentos en la productividad laboral.
