Abstract

[eng] Feminine activity : continuous and discontinuous careers - Fewer and fewer women remain completely outside the work world. Out of ten women between the ages of 35 and 39 in 1 982, only one had never had a job, four had stopped working at least once, and the other five had had continuous careers. Continuous careers are most frequent among cadres, they are the least continuous among working class wornen. Work interruptions peak at an early age. At the end of the 1 970s, about one out of two interruptions took place at the time of the birth of a child or in order to raise children. More and more often, however, economic reasons are at the source of work interruptions. Unemployment is responsible for withdrawal from activity to the extent that a woman may lack skills.
