Abstract

[eng] Consumption and prices in Poland and France -P In addition to their intrinsic interest, the main goal of price comparisons is to evaluate the relative volume of consumption in the countries concerned. The starting point is to define a rate of equivalence, which is the ratio of prices for a given product in each of the respective national currencies. The aggregate of these basic rates is then compared with the value of per capita consumption, and the relative volume of the consumption per capita in the two countries is deduced from this. Overall, the volume of consumption of the average Pole in 1977 was 46 % of that of the average Frenchman. The Poles consume a larger quantity of traditional and unprocessed food products. They purchase relatively few manufactured goods (furniture, clothing, cars, etc.), and make far greater use than the French of the repair and maintenance services at their disposal.
