Abstract

Corbino was an acute observer of economic and political events and a clever historian of the Italian (and not only) economy. But he was mainly an intellectual with a strong capacity to single out the most relevant changes in economic theory and policy. For these reasons he publishes in 1974 a pioneering volume on Energy, Economics and Ecology where he stresses the importance of a change in the cultural, theoretical and policy paradigm in governing natural resources and energy. The aim of the essay is to enquire into the intellectual foundations and the scientific milieu in which the book was written, illustrating some of its most relevant insights.
