The evaluation of social relevance in an environmental research programme

Abstract

This evaluates the Finnish Biodiversity Programme FIBRE. Aspects of programme management examined were: societal expectations and the administrative structure; possibilities in terms of organisations involved; and societal impact decisions. Examination of social relevance at programme level identified: relevance of programme objectives; research benefits produced; enhancement of programme/project interaction and networks; actions taken and the methods used for results dissemination; and economic, social and ecological impacts of research.
