Abstract

This article describes the chronology of the birth of one of the important concepts in neoinstitutionalism – the economic theory of law. This is a science that rests on the border between economics and law, and is now taught in economics and law faculties of the most famous universities in the world. The following aspects have been considered: the main stages of its formation, fundamental papers tracing its development, key figures that have played an important role in the formulation of its fundamental principles, the system of laws and categories that now form the body of its toolkit. The article defends the thesis that it is now pressing for this relatively new scientific discipline to find a place in Bulgarian higher education too.
