Disciplines Of Social Sciences: Separation Or Cooperation?

Abstract

In this paper, I decided to take a closer look at the relationship among the various social science disciplines. Economics student Noemi Peter assisted me in this work. We focused on four disciplines: economics, political science, sociology, and law. We selected five leading journals from each of these disciplines and reviewed one volume of each, that is, all articles published in 2004. Where do we stand now with respect to separation and cooperation in the social sciences? What can be done to bring these disciplines closer together so that they will provide a coherent multipronged approach to the problems they now each confront separately? I attempt to give only a partial and draft response here, mainly to inspire the reader to think about these difficult questions. A deeper understanding of these problems requires more thorough and extended research.
