Abstract

The results obtained by Romanian students at international assessments (PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS) are very low compared to the other European countries. Moreover, a very large percentage of them is below the minimum level of competency for all three areas investigated by PISA: writing/reading, mathematics and science. On the occasion of these assessments, the education systems are put in a position to measure the ability to form and transmit to the students the knowledge, skills, abilities needed for full social and professional integration, in a constantly changing society and economy. In this article, we aim to focus on that category of students who fail to overcome level 2 skills, knowledge, skills on the PISA scale. The data come from PISA 2015, but also from previous assessments (PISA 2012, 2009, 2006) and the research method we will use is secondary data analysis.
