Abstract

Empowerment has gained a central place in the discourses of many spheres of social life. Far from being a new technique, empowerment is founded on the society’s will to rebalance the power in favour of disadvantaged. This concept is defined as a process, a method through which individuals, organizations and communities have control over the events that involve them. After reviewing the concept, the following article examines the strategies generally prescribed for supporting the empowerment of the individuals and groups.
