Abstract

Each organization has its own culture, product of its work environment, policies, values and guidelines governing executives or senior managers. Through this, contributors direct their efforts and skills to orient themselves to the achievement of objectives and goals. Therefore, the objective of this work is to analyze the relationship between culture-leadership, through an empirical study in an institution of higher education. Two questionnaires were applied to identify the type of predominant organizational culture and level of development of managerial competencies, using descriptive statistical techniques and inferential. The results reflect a slight predominance of collaborative culture. So the institution moves into a culture that encourages strategic based innovation, organizational learning and knowledge management. The performance of management skills is at a low level and the threshold of what is to be achieved is below this level. Participatory and transformational leadership has a significant association with the remaining management skills.
