Abstract

A comparison between the welfare states of Japan and the United States shows a sharp contrast as “outcome security” or “opportunity security,” or “unconditional and universal security” or “diverse respecting security.” However, both countries are similar in the development of the logic of economic monism(monetary uniformity)in society. This paper investigates the likehood of resistance against economic monism based on the “No more Hibakusha” movement and explores ways of reconstructing the welfare state.
