Ansvar for borgeres økonomiske inkompetence

Abstract

Vi belyser danskernes evne til at træffe økonomiske valg og argumenterer for, at økonomisk inkompetence (financial literacy) potentielt er en udfordring for mange. Vi definerer begrebet økonomisk kompetence og viser, at betydelige dele af en befolkning udviser stor økonomisk inkompetence. Vi viser derefter de danske familiers investeringsadfærd og konstaterer, at størstedelen handler på måder, som må ligge langt fra deres egen interesse. Uagtet eventuel professionel rådgivning har de fleste for få forskellige aktiver og for dårlig forrentning af disse få aktiver. Og dette gælder i særlig grad for den halvdel af befolkningen, der har de mindste formuer. Som Piketty (2014, kapital 12) har argumenteret for, bidrager dette til økonomisk ulighed over tid, fordi en dårligere forrentning af opsparing giver mindre formue til fremtidigt forbrug. Vi stiller spørgsmålstegn ved, hvem der har ansvaret for – og skal stå til ansvar for – inkompetencen.
