Abstract

This paper offers a view of the presence of Vocational Education and Training (VET) workers in the industrial SMEs of the Basque Autonomous Community (Spain). The analysis is based on a survey carried out to a random sample of firms, stratified by size. It is shown that presence of VET workers is particularly high in small firms from metal working sectors. Presence of VET skills is important not only at lower level, but also at middle and even upper management levels. The study shows that VET workers’ contribution to the competitiveness of the firms is highly valued by their managers, especially when those workers have higher VET degrees.
