Abstract

The purpose of this work is to analyze the influence of cyclical variations of activity on the ratio between employment and potentially active population. This is carried out for different demographic groups. The main conclusions which are obtained are: first, that participation and unemployment must be jointly considered in order to analyze cyclical changes in the labour market; secondly, young people experience the greatest cyclical variations in employment and finally, the educational level has a stabilizing role for women, both reference to their labour participation and to their employment rate.
