Abstract

This article analyzes European public administrations'''' recent experiences with management through agencies. It begins by reviewing the situation in Sweden where this model has a long history. It then examines in detail the «Next Steps» program adopted by the British public administration and concludes with a look at the French experiment which, though less ambitious, involves similar principies.
