Abstract

The article both identifies and explains twelve different thesis about programme assessment in the Public Administrations, covering the functions, advantages and drawbacks which they entail for public management. Once the term assessment has been defined, a list of the different types of assessment is then specified -the line of argument concentrating on the dichotomy which hoids between internal assessment/external assessment. Finally, there is a discussion about the role of information systems as a support both to assessment procedures and to management.
