Abstract

Historically self-sufficient and anarchical, the moment has arrived for the farmer to ask the city -97% of the basque population- what it wants, what it hopes for, what it desires, what function it must carry out. In this article an attempt is made to answer this question, understanding Basque farming as a mixed and many-sided group of opportunities and challenges. Essentially as a producer of genuine, select and expensive products, as an activity open to urban leisure and, more recently, as the depository and administrator of a basic and fundamental treasure: the land, i.e., the conservation of Nature.
