Solar u.v. radiation at Gaborone, Botswana

Abstract

Measurements of global solar ultraviolet (u.v.) radiation in the range of wavelengths 295–395 nm for Gaborone (24.67°S, 25.92°E, 1000 m altitude), taken over the period February 1992–January 1993, are studied. It is observed that the monthly average of the daily ratio of the u.v. to the total irradiation peaked to 5.1% in February, dropped to a minimum of 3.0% in June, and has an annual average of 4.1%, which represents an annual solar ultraviolet irradiation average of 890 kJ/m2.
