Solar collector with temperature limitation using shape memory metal

Abstract

Application of Heat pipe in photo-thermal conversion as well as the heat transfer mechanism in a heat pipe is reported. The problem of no-load conditions combined with high stagnation temperature of (in particular by evacuated) solar collectors is addressed. The use of shape memory alloys in solar collectors is discussed. The Shape Memory Effect as well as the superelasticity is explained. The physical phenomena of Shape Memory Effect as well as superelasticity is briefly reviewed. The application of a shape memory alloy in a commercially available evacuated heat pipe solar collector and its mechanism is discussed.
