Abstract

The use of regression analysis to identify measurement-error problems and to analyze natural-gas consumption in commercial buildings using sample survey data is discussed. The data from the survey are first evaluated. Then, the relationship between weather and consumption of natural gas for a sample of commercial buildings is estimated by using regression techniques. Square footage and other building characteristics are next examined to determine the extent to which these factors can be used to explain estimated heating-degree-day effects from the initial estimation.
