Abstract

A numerical solution is obtained for the partial differential equations modeling the free propagation between parallel plates of the premixed laminar flame resulting from the combustion of gasolene-air mixtures. Solutions are used to study the flame properties, namely the flame-characteristic parameters and internal structure, and their dependence on initial temperature, pressure and equivalence ratio. The results indicate a remarkable increase in flame speed, heat release rate and maximum flame-temperature with initial temperature. The increase in pressure decreases the flame speed and thickness, and pronouncedly increases the heat-release rate. With the exception of flame thickness, all of the studied flame-characteristic parameters show considerable decreases with the decrease of equivalence ratio. The axial distribution of fuel concentration, flame temperature, volumetric heat-release rate and axial flame structure are affected significantly by the initial temperature, pressure and equivalence ratio, while the transverse structure enjoys a uniform distribution along the duct's cross-section at the various axial locations for all the studied conditions except those of lean mixtures.
