Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the behaviour of a Trombe wall/roof consisting of pipes, laid in a solid block, one surface of which is exposed to the sun, the other surface being in direct contact with a room maintained at a constant temperature, [theta]R. Numerical calculations were performed for the relevant parameters of the system, corresponding to the solar radiation and the ambient temperature data on a typical hot summer's day in New Delhi, i.e. the 19th of June, 1979. Numerical calculations using the simulation indicated that the critical parameters of the system are the position of the plane of heat retrieval, the mass flow rate of the fluid and the shade of painting.
