Masterstudium ja oder nein? Gezielte Online-Informationen beeinflussen weitere Studienpläne

Abstract

Nach wie vor entscheidet sich die Mehrheit der BachelorabsolventInnen für ein Masterstudium, auch wenn die Anteile zurückgehen. Wenig ist jedoch darüber bekannt, was diese Entscheidung beeinflusst und inwiefern dabei Informationen über zusätzliche Erträge eines Masterstudiums und dessen Finanzierung im Vergleich zu einem Bachelorstudium relevant sind. Die vorliegende Analyse auf Basis des Berliner-Studienberechtigten-Panels (Best Up) zeigt, dass männliche Studierende infolge gezielt bereitgestellter Online-Informationen die Perspektiven ohne Masterstudium besser einschätzen als zuvor. Dadurch verliert ein Masterstudium für sie an Attraktivität. Tatsächlich beabsichtigen sie – wie weitere Befragungen bis zu einem Jahr nach der Online-Informationsbereitstellung zeigen – seltener, einen Master zu machen, und nehmen auch etwas weniger oft ein Masterstudium auf. Dabei sind sowohl Informationen über das Einkommen als auch über nichtmonetäre Aspekte wie das Anforderungsniveau von beruflichen Tätigkeiten relevant. Auch wenn sich diese Effekte für Frauen nicht zeigen, wird klar: Gezielt bereitgestellte Online-Informationen können ein sehr effektives und kostengünstiges Instrument sein, um Menschen besser informierte und alternative Bildungsentscheidungen zu ermöglichen.
