Abstract

This paper explores how top managers of listed companies justify their remuneration in French context. It proposes another look on researches about the justification of top managers’ remuneration by questioning them in person. Theoretically speaking, this research proposes a framework to understand the perspectives of justification used by French top managers of listed companies and the controversies that may occur between them. Empirically speaking, five key perspectives of justification of remuneration emerge defined around : (i) the arguments ; (2) the logic of justification and ; (iii) the rhetoric used in discourses.
