Tres décadas de homicidios, secuestro y tráfico de drogas en Colombia

Abstract

Varios elementos permiten caracterizar la violencia colombiana en los últimos treinta y cinco anos. El primero es una tasa de homicidios que, creciente desde 1970, alcanzó niveles extraordinarios a principios de los noventa para luego descender de manera casi continua hasta la fecha. El número anual de muertes violentas ha sido tal vez la variable más esquiva a una teoría satisfactoria sobre sus determinantes, a pesar de ser una de las más analizadas. Hay cierto acuerdo en que el incremento a lo largo de los anos ochenta estuvo vinculado al auge de la droga, pero probablemente nunca se sabrá con certeza por qué las tasas de homicidio empezaron a caer desde principios de la década pasada.
