Diferencias por sexo en el desempeno académico en Colombia: Un analisis regional

Abstract

Este trabajo explora las brechas por sexo en el desempeno académico de los estudiantes de educación media de las regiones colombianas en la prueba SABER-11 de 2009, realizada por el Instituto Colombiano para el Fomento de la Educación Superior (ICFES). Los datos se analizaron mediante una prueba de contraste de medias (t Student) y regresiones por cuantiles, específicamente en los componentes de matemáticas y lenguaje. El análisis revela que en el componente de matemáticas los hombres tienen un mejor desempeno que las mujeres. Sin embargo, esta diferencia no es homogénea en el país; en la región central oriental se observan mayores diferencias. Las mujeres tienen un mejor desempeno que los hombres en el componente de lenguaje solo en las regiones Caribe y Pacífica.
