La evolución de la oferta laboral en Uruguay y sus diferencias de género (1991-2009)

Abstract

Este artículo analiza los cambios en la participación femenina y masculina en el mercado laboral de Uruguay en el período 1991-2009. Se estima la probabilidad de participar en el mercado de trabajo, la elasticidad no compensada de la oferta laboral y los cambios en los determinantes y su incidencia a través del tiempo, tanto para las decisiones de participación como para las horas trabajadas. Los resultados verifican la disminución de la incidencia de los factores que inhiben la participación femenina. Por otro lado, permiten identificar la mayor sensibilidad de la oferta laboral de las mujeres a los cambios en los salarios, así como las diferencias en la significación e incidencia de las variables sociodemográficas para el colectivo masculino y femenino. Ello se entiende relevante a los efectos del diseno de políticas laborales que contemplen las diferencias de género.
