Educación financiera en mujeres: un estudio en el barrio López de Mesa de Medellín

Abstract

Las decisiones financieras responsables hacen parte de un ideal que le permite a las personas afrontar de forma adecuada su cotidianidad. Para hacer frente a este reto, gobiernos y distintos tipos de instituciones han disenado estrategias para que la población, en general, esté mejor equipada y fundamentada a la hora de gestionar sus recursos financieros disponibles. No obstante, la literatura académica muestra que las características inherentes a las personas actúan como variables de control en el momento de explicar la existencia de brechas. Así, este trabajo pone de relieve la importancia de las dimensiones asociadas al comportamiento, el conocimiento y las actitudes de las mujeres que habitan en un barrio de Medellín. Para este fin se aplicó un cuestionario estructurado y se realizó el análisis de la información utilizando estadística descriptiva y tablas de contingencia, además de un modelo logístico ordenado para el nivel de conocimiento. Los resultados en el lado comportamental revelan la existencia de un mayor interés por pagar las deudas a tiempo y por con-siderar si pueden pagar algo antes de comprarlo. En la dimensión del conocimiento los resultados muestran un indicador financiero bajo, principalmente en las mujeres con un mayor número de hijos y sin información en estos temas. Por su parte, en el lado actitudinal las mujeres con dos o más hijos, casadas y con mayores ingresos tienen una actitud financiera más austera.******Responsible financial decisions are part of an aspiration that enables people to adequately cope with their daily lives. Faced with this challenge, governments and different institutions have designed strategies for the population to be better equipped and informed when it comes to managing its available financial resources. Nonetheless, the academic literature shows that people’s characteristics act as control variables when explaining the existing gaps. Thus, this article highlights the relevance of the dimensions associated with the behavior, knowledge, and attitudes of women living in a district of Medellín. For this purpose, a structured questionnaire was employed, and the information analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and contingency tables, in addition to a logistic model ordered for the level of knowledge. The behavioral results reveal great interest in paying debts on time and considering whether they can pay something before buying it. The results show a low financial indicator in the knowledge dimension, mainly in women with many children and no information on these issues. Attitudinally, married women with two or more children and a higher income have a more austere financial attitude.******As decisoes financeiras responsáveis fazem parte de um ideal que permite as pessoas enfrentar, de forma adequada, sua cotidianidade. Para vencer esse desafio, governos e diferentes tipos de instituicoes vem desenhando estratégias para que a populacao, em geral, esteja mais bem equipada e fundamentada no momento de administrar seus recursos financeiros disponíveis. Contudo, a literatura academica mostra que as características inerentes as pessoas atuam como variáveis de controle quando tem que explicar a existencia de lacunas. Assim, este trabalho salienta a importancia das dimensoes associadas ao comportamento, ao conhecimento e as atitudes das mulheres que residem em um bairro de Medellín, Colombia. Para isso, foi aplicado um questionário estruturado e realizada uma análise da informacao a partir da utilizacao de estatística descritiva e de tabelas de contingencia, além de um modelo logístico ordenado para o nível de conhecimento. Os resultados quanto ao comportamento revelam a existencia de um maior interesse por pagar as dívidas a tempo e considerar se podem pagar alguma coisa antes de comprar algo. Na dimensao do conhecimento, os resultados mostram um indicador financeiro baixo, principalmente nas mulheres com maior número de filhos e sem informacao nesses temas. Por sua vez, no ambito atitudinal, as mulheres com dois ou mais filhos, casadas e com maiores salários tem uma atitude financeira mais austera.
