The red tail light - The reasons for Germany's weak growth and the necessary reforms

Abstract

Die Standort- und Wachstumsschwäche Deutschlands hat bedrohliche Ausmaße erreicht. Seit 30 Jahren steigt die Arbeitslosigkeit, und das Wachstum erlahmt. Deutschland wird zurzeit sukzessive von einem EU-Land nach dem anderen überholt. Der Euro hat die deutsche Wirtschaft des Zinsvorteils beraubt, den sie unter dem Schutze der D-Mark hatte, und der wirtschaftliche Misserfolg bei der deutschen Vereinigung belastet das Land schwer. Nur noch wenig Zeit bleibt für eine Erholung, bis die fortschreitende Überalterung der Bevölkerung die Kraft für einen neuen Aufschwung schwinden lässt. Japanische Verhältnisse sind noch nicht gekommen, aber sie drohen. Die wachsende Zahl der Insolvenzen und die Bankenkrise sind ungute Vorboten der Probleme, die noch anstehen könnten. Die Europäische Zentralbank hat die Verantwortung, Deutschland vor einer Deflation zu bewahren, aber eine solche Politik allein reicht keinesfalls aus, das Land wieder in Schwung zu bringen.
