Abstract

We analyze through the literature on proximity the modes of coordination of individuals and organizations within clusters for the creation of localized specific assets. We propose two complementary logics at the origin of the cluster dynamics. A professional logic refers to the capacity of firms to identify common problems triggering short-term collaborations. A historic logic refers to the construction of patrimonial alliances that ease the coordination of cluster members through agreements of mutual assistance. They require the creation of trust relationships on a long-term basis. This theoretical framework is applied to the study of the ?pôle de compétitivité? concerning specialized plants in the Pays-de-la-Loire Region.
