Accessibilité ou voisinage ?. Une analyse des sources de la ségrégation résidentielle au sein des aires urbaines françaises

Abstract

Economic theory points to two main mechanisms of residential income segregation : (i) the sorting according to distance to the center, resulting from a differenciated trade-off of households between accessibility to employment and housing prices and (ii) the sorting between municipalities, resulting from heterogenous supplies of public goods and preferences for the social environment. An econometric analysis of location choices of moving households within French urban areas highlights an equal weight of these two segregation mechanisms in the level of segregation by occupations whereas the distance-based sorting prevails in the sorting by citizenship status. Classification JEL : R21, R23, R1
