El dinamismo reciente del mercado laboral y su impacto sobre el consumo de los trabajadores

Abstract

Motivación Tras la pandemia, el mercado laboral español ha mostrado un dinamismo notable, lo que ha favorecido que la probabilidad de perder el empleo percibida por los trabajadores haya descendido. Este artículo evalúa en qué medida ello ha podido incidir positivamente sobre el consumo (al reducir el ahorro por motivos de precaución). Ideas principales •La fortaleza del mercado laboral y el aumento del peso de la contratación indefinida han favorecido la reducción de la probabilidad de perder el empleo percibida por los trabajadores, lo que reduce el ahorro por motivo de precaución y eleva los niveles de gasto de los hogares. •La incertidumbre acerca de las rentas laborales futuras afecta con especial intensidad al gasto en bienes duraderos y, en menor medida, al destinado a otras partidas de gasto no esencial. •Los hogares cuyo gasto en bienes duraderos responde con más intensidad ante cambios en la incertidumbre sobre los ingresos laborales futuros son aquellos que no disponen de un colchón mínimo de activos líquidos con el que hacer frente a una caída de los ingresos. Esto se observa más frecuentemente en las familias de rentas bajas y en los jóvenes.
