La evolución de la actividad en las provincias españolas a lo largo de 2020 y sus determinantes

Abstract

Este artículo presenta una estimación de la evolución provincial del PIB a lo largo de 2020. El impacto de la pandemia sobre la actividad ha sido muy heterogéneo por provincias, siendo las insulares y las del arco mediterráneo las más afectadas. Por otro lado, se exploran los factores que hay detrás de dicha heterogeneidad. Un mayor peso del turismo, sobre todo extranjero, en la actividad provincial, una mayor proporción de empleo temporal, así como un menor peso del sector público y niveles más bajos de movilidad ciudadana, estuvieron asociados con mayores caídas de la actividad. Sin embargo, una vez controlados estos efectos de la movilidad y la estructura económica, el exceso de mortalidad derivado de la pandemia no parece ser una variable significativa a la hora de explicar diferencias en la evolución del PIB provincial en 2020.
