La moderación salarial en España y en la UEM

Abstract

Una de las características más visibles de la reciente recuperación económica es la moderación en el crecimiento salarial que se observa en buena parte de las economías avanzadas. Este artículo analiza cuantitativamente la contribución de varios factores a la evolución de la tasa de crecimiento salarial en España y en la UEM durante la actual fase de recuperación económica. En ambos casos, los resultados muestran que la reciente moderación salarial viene explicada por niveles de holgura del mercado laboral relativamente elevados y por bajas expectativas de inflación. Para la UEM, otro factor relevante es el reducido crecimiento de la productividad, lo que contrasta con lo ocurrido en otras fases similares del ciclo económico. El análisis también revela que, en el período más reciente, es importante tener en cuenta indicadores de holgura más amplios que la tasa de paro, dado que la elevada proporción de trabajadores a tiempo parcial involuntario y de desempleados desanimados estaría ejerciendo una cierta presión a la baja sobre los salarios.
