Abstract

Viele deutsche hochschulpolitische Programme und Reformen nehmen an Vorbildern aus den USA Maß - gestufte Bachelor- und Master-Studiengänge zum Beispiel, Alumnivereine und nicht zuletzt die Exzellenzinitiative. Doch häufig führt die Imitation attraktiver institutioneller Merkmale amerikanischer Universitäten zu ganz anderen als den erhofften Ergebnissen. Der Grund: In solchen Modellen kommen stets unterschiedliche institutionelle Kontexte und Studienkulturen zum Ausdruck, die sich einfach nicht übertragen lassen.
