Methodologische Positionen und soziale Praktiken in der Volkswirtschaftslehre: Der Ökonom Walter Eucken in der Weimarer Republik

Abstract

In der Weimarer Republik war die deutsche Volkswirtschaftslehre durch grundlegende Auseinandersetzungen gespalten, die die Fundamente wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis betrafen. Der Ökonom Walter Eucken spielte eine prominente Rolle innerhalb dieser Kontroversen und formulierte umfassende methodologische Überlegungen. Zugleich beteiligte er sich intensiv sowohl an den wirtschaftspolitischen Debatten des Landes als auch an den disziplinären Machtkämpfen seines Faches. Der Beitrag zeigt am Beispiel des Briefwechsels mit seinem Kollegen Alexander Rüstow, dass die erkenntnistheoretischen Stellungnahmen Euckens in engem Zusammenhang mit seinen alltäglichen sozialen Praktiken standen. Der Aufsatz richtet sich gegen die rein ideengeschichtliche Perspektive, die in den Studien zur Geschichte der Sozialwissenschaften weiterhin verbreitet ist, und plädiert für eine stärkere Einbettung methodologischer Konzeptionen in den gesellschaftlichen Kontext.
