Verteilungsbericht 2021: Die Einkommenssituation und Abstiegsängste der Mittelschicht

Abstract

Die Einkommensungleichheit ist in den letzten Jahren leicht zurückgegangen, nicht zuletzt, weil vor allem die mittleren Einkommen seit 2014 stetig gestiegen sind. Was bedeutet das für die sogenannte Mittelschicht und deren Abstiegsängste, die in den letzten Jahrzehnten vielfach thematisiert worden sind? Der Verteilungsbericht zeigt, dass die positive konjunkturelle Entwicklung im letzten Jahrzehnt auch zu einer deutlichen Verringerung der ökonomischen Zukunftssorgen dieser Gruppe geführt hat. Deren ökonomische Stabilisierung und die damit verknüpfte Abnahme finanzieller und beruflicher Sorgen könnte aber durch die Covid-19-Krise gestoppt werden, weswegen es jetzt politischer Maßnahmen bedarf, die vor allem die stark von der Krise betroffenen Gruppen im Blick haben.
