Instrumentalisierung des Kosakentums: Russlands Rückgriff auf seine imperiale Geschichte

Abstract

In dem Bemühen, die russische Gesellschaft durch Patriotismus zu festigen, greift die Führung des Landes auf historische Symbole zurück. Dazu gehören auch die Kosaken. Das Verhalten des Kremls gegenüber dem nachsowjetischen Neu-Kosakentum besteht in Förderung und Nutzung, aber auch in Zähmung und Kontrolle. Denn als Söldner und »freie Krieger« verbinden Kosaken einen staatstreuen Patriotismus mit ausgeprägtem Autonomiestreben. Der Ukraine-Konflikt hat den staatlichen Rückgriff auf die nationale Geschichte zwar nicht hervorgerufen, wohl aber verstärkt. Das Bedürfnis nach einem kompensatorischen Nationalismus ist 2014 in Russland deutlich gewachsen - und dürfte angesichts der sich verschärfenden Wirtschaftskrise im Land weiter zunehmen.
