Magere Jahre in Australien: Nach dem Rohstoffboom steht der fünfte Kontinent vor schwierigen wirtschaftspolitischen Entscheidungen

Abstract

Der konservative Premierminister Tony Abbott ist am 14. September von seinem Herausforderer Malcolm Turnbull abgelöst worden. Überraschen konnte diese Revolte nicht: Abbott war in seiner Partei umstritten, in der Bevölkerung unpopulär und hatte zudem strukturelle wirtschaftliche Schwächen zu bewältigen. Nach fast 25 Jahren stetigen Wachstums wird die australische Wirtschaft vom Abflauen des Rohstoffbooms hart getroffen. Zudem ist die verarbeitende Industrie kaum noch konkurrenzfähig. Deutlich macht dies das Ende der Autoproduktion: Die drei verbliebenen Automobilhersteller werden bis zum Jahr 2017 die Fabriktore schließen. (SWP-Aktuell)
