Abstract

Als es im September 2012 vor westlichen Vertretungen in islamischen Ländern zu Ausschreitungen kam, rückte der Salafismus einmal mehr ins Zentrum weltweiter Aufmerksamkeit. Auch in Ägypten beteiligten sich Salafisten an den gewalttätigen Protesten gegen das anti-islamische Video, das ein Kopte in Kalifornien produziert hatte. Überschattet wurde dabei, dass der Salafismus in Ägypten gerade einen wichtigen Wandel vollzieht. Die große Mehrheit dieser Strömung will zwar weiterhin eine Rückkehr zum Ur-Islam der frommen Altvorderen, partizipiert aber zugleich pragmatisch und gewaltfrei am politischen Prozess
